Homemade Lemon Pepper Seasoning (Gluten-Free)

Store-bought lemon pepper seasoning can sometimes contain hidden gluten or unnecessary fillers. Making your own ensures fresh, bright flavor with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp lemon zest (from 2–3 lemons)
  • 1 tbsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 170°F (or lowest setting).
  2. Spread lemon zest on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until zest is completely dry (check often so it doesn’t burn).
  4. Once cooled, combine dried lemon zest with pepper, salt, and garlic powder in a spice grinder or mortar & pestle.
  5. Pulse until well mixed and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Ways to Use Lemon Pepper

  • Sprinkle over roasted chicken or fish.
  • Toss with roasted potatoes or broccoli.
  • Stir into salad dressings for a citrusy kick.
  • Mix into melted butter and drizzle over popcorn.
